Loving v. Virginia Louisiana

Has the state of Louisiana not been through enough in recent years that they must now endure this disgustingness?

The Associated Press reports: A Louisiana justice of the peace said he refused to issue a marriage license to an interracial couple out of concern for any children the couple might have.

Keith Bardwell, justice of the peace in Tangipahoa Parish, says it is his experience that most interracial marriages do not last long.

Neither Bardwell nor the couple immediately returned phone calls from The Associated Press. But Bardwell told the Daily Star of Hammond that he was not a racist.

"I do ceremonies for black couples right here in my house," Bardwell said. "My main concern is for the children."

If there is any hope for the future of this state, or this country, then please tell me this man will be removed from his position immediately and jailed. Everyone in American should be outraged that these people should have to endure this vulgar and illegal bigotry, even if Bardwell is "not" a racist.

UPDATE: Gov. Bobby Jindal joined civil rights groups and others in calling for Bardwell's resignation.

It's always for the children isn't it.
How does the justice even know that they wanted to have children? Though I suppose, "why is it any of his business whether they want to have children or is?" is the more pertinent question here.

He's got balls for sure. And I appreciate the "I oversee black weddings therefore I am not racist" defense. I suppose the bus driver for Rosa Parks could have used something similar.

Hopefully this sheds some light on the preying nature of opponents of marriage-equality, even the miscegenation kind.

There is no need to back track on this country's racist past...we are having trouble with marrying the gays nowadays...lets stay focused.

I think he should have his license taken away and the couple should go elsewhere to get married instead of being in that bootleg town.
