28 Candles

Andy Roddick celebrated his 28th birthday yesterday with a stroll through the city with his model wife, Brooklyn Decker, and an easy first-round victory at the U.S. Open.

Kelly Killoren Bensimon: When Shiny Met Crazy

Isn't this the same bat-shit-crazy chick who couldn't take a sip of Bethenny Frankel's Skinny Girl margarita "drinking" in broad daylight today at the Appleton Estate Bartender's Challenge at the Macao Trading Co.?

Desperate 'Housewives'

Blame it on the "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?" syndrome -- the law of diminishing returns, when a network gives us too much of a "good" thing -- but I have not watched a single second of "The Real Housewives of DC" this summer, and I'm starting to think I never will. (My DVR has dutifully recorded all the episodes that have aired so far.) As regular readers know, I was a huge fan of the original Orange County incarnation, justifying my guilty pleasure on my having lived behind the Orange Curtain many years ago. Loving New York was a no-brainer but then I cooled on Atlanta, blaming it on my lack of interest in the city that is the ultimate costar. By the time New Jersey rolled around, I was game again -- when you live in New York you're certainly exposed to "Jersey culture" -- but found myself completely disinterested as this season rolled on. (I haven't watched part one of the reunion yet, but the previews seem to indicate that it's the stand-in for Teresa's table flip last year -- read: the ONLY "interesting" part about the whole sleep-inducing season.) Before it even ended Bravo was shoving "Bethenny Getting Married?" down our throats -- she wasn't that interesting when she was one of five, why would I want to watch an entire show about her? -- and at the same time it started the DC franchise. (Give me a chance to miss you, Bravo. You're like that desperate guy who keeps calling and ends up unwittingly convincing me that I don't like you after all.) In theory, the idea of a DC installation sounded right up my alley -- I lived and worked there for many years, and interned on the Hill as a college student. But everything about it looks repugnant, and with all of my friends who live there telling me it is truly unwatchable, it might take a case of the 48-hour flu to get me to sit through them all now. I've always wondered why more people don't publicly regret their participation on reality shows -- as White House photographer Charles Ommanney, soon-to-be ex-hubby of DC Housewive Cat Ommanney now admits he does. But given the caliber of the people who usually star on them -- think Jill Zarin -- I guess the question answers itself.

Looks like we might need the Typo Eradication Advancement League (TEAL) to do something about this "severe" sausage!

Fishing for Compliments

I think it's hilarious that the New York tabloids are running competing stories about America's "greatest" hopes for a U.S. Open title this year: The Post thinks time is running out for "old man" Andy Roddick, who turned 28 today and won his only Grand Slam title back in 2003 in the Big Apple, while The Daily News is oohing and aahing about Mardy Fish -- this generation's Vitas Gerulaitis -- who has people going ga-ga over his new 30-pounds-lighter body, above. What The Daily News fails to mention is that Fish happens to be turning 29 later this year!

Fun 'Couples' at the Emmys

With the visibility of same-sex couples at an all time high at this year's Emmy Awards -- Neil Patrick Harris/David Burtka and Jane Lynch/Lara Embry shining the brightest with three trophies between them -- you gotta figure Rock Hudson is taking a break from having sex with hundreds of young studs somewhere to look down and smile. But as great as our award-winning gays were, here are a few of my other fave "duos" from the night:

"Bosom Buddies" reunion: Tom Hanks and Holland Taylor

This'll Work: Scott Bakula and Joel McHale -- one for sex, one for laughs

Lose That Hubby: Alexander Skarsgard and Anna Paquin

Party of Two: Matthew Fox and Eric Stonestreet

Mad Women: January Jones and Christina Hendricks

The only thing thinner than Lea Michele these days is Chris Colfer's voice

Mad About You: Jon Hamm and non-wife Jennifer Westfeldt

The perpetually hot Dennis Quaid and ... well, who really cares?

Kiss and Make Up: Jane and Matthew Morrison

27 Candles

He's probably as big a tool as he seems on "reality" television, but I wouldn't kick Brody Jenner out of bed for eating birthday cake.

Going 'Green' at the Emmys

I can't even sit through awards shows anymore. There's something about the winners' speeches and their complete inability to censor themselves -- or at least show some appreciation for the time constraints of live television -- makes me so uncomfortable that I cannot even bear to watch. Although these prizes technically mean "nothing," I was still happy to see there were some new winners at this year's Emmys (full list HERE), including Jane Lynch, Eric Stonestreet and "Modern Family," plus some past winners that deserve(d) to win again ("The Daily Show" -- despite having no good correspondents anymore, Jon is still an American hero -- and "Mad Men," which I just started watching on DVD this weekend and am already hooked on). Since I can't handle watching the show, I figured some photos from the green room were a fitting complement to this post.

Fun couple: Tina Fey and Matthew Morrison

Must See TV: Ted Danson and Julia Louis-Dreyfus

Hot Stuff: Eva Longoria and LL Cool J

George Clooney and his latest too-young-for-him cocktail waitress

The radiant Claire Danes, winner for best actress in a miniseries or movie for HBO's "Temple Grandin"

Where's Peter? Lauren Graham and Matthew Perry

The Lady Is a Vamp: Stephen Moyer and Anna Paquin

Filthy Gorgeous: Eva Longoria and and hubby Tony Parker

Soupy Sales? Clooney and Joel McHale

Fortnight in Flushing

A shot of Arthur Ashe Stadium on the eve of the 2010 U.S. Open. While it doesn't feel the same as it did when I'd ditch school to watch the women's semifinals live on television -- Tracy Austin vs. Barbara Potter, anyone? -- I'm still eager to see who will come through in the end.

Lucky Bitch Alert!

Kim Clijsters got to spend the day with my boy David Wright out in Queens today. Read all about it HERE. Meanwhile, Donald Trump hosted a party for "good friends" Fernando Verdasco and Feliciano Lopez, and Andy Roddick made his annual pilgrimage to the Taste of Tennis event.
