Those Were the Days

Loving the “All in the Family” marathon at my parents’ house. Didn’t take long for two gay zingers!

“Look at that. This could be the wallpaper in a fag bar.” — Archie Bunker, reacting to the Hawaiian shirt Edith’s cousin brought back as a gift.

“Don’t you know what those signs all over the plant — Pilfers Will Be Prosecuted — mean?” Irene Lorenzo, asking Archie after noticing he “borrowed” a drill from the tool and die company where they work.

“They mean queers stay out of the bathroom.” (!)

The Cover Girls did a nice version. And Paul Weller's gender flip was perfect. But there's no substitute for the classic original.

Hunks of 'House Hunters'

When last we left Liz and Joey, his hunky cousin Paul was trying to find his cuz a a new home in Chicago with a bathtub that could accommodate his 6-4 frame.

After an extremely warm greeting ...

he took them to see three  places ...

Liz held on for dear life ...

literally doing everything she could to come between the guys ...

You know you're hot when you you're 6-4 and have an ass ...

... two of which had tiny tubs ...

But then Paul came through with a tub for two ...

only they kept their clothes on

Rubba dubba dub dub, two studs in a tub ...

and outdoor space ...

Oh, daddy!

And if there was any question that the producer was gay, the episode ending with Joey doing a striptease out of his bathrobe as he got into the tub. Sadly, Paul was nowhere to be found.

My mother's family in Baltimore circa 1959

My family will never be the same again now that Bill is no longer with us. But don't think I'm not aware of how fortunate I am nonetheless, spending the holiday with the survivors. Hope you're having a wonderful Thanksgiving too with you and yours.

The Birthday Girl

Lots of tears when Mom received (my sister-in-law) Jacqueline’s gift today — two beautiful pillows constructed from some of my brother Bill’s favorite T-shirts — but in the best possible way. xo
