Song of the Day: 'Under the Influence' by Vanity

Yeah, yesterday sent me on a Prince protégés bender. Never understood why this one -- a No. 9 hit on the R&B and No. 6 on the Dance charts -- wasn't a bigger crossover hit, peaking at just No. No. 56 on the Billboard Hot 100. Its cowriter and guitarist, Robbie Nevil, had a Top 10 hit later the same year with "C'est la Vie" ... that's life!

Sad to hear about the passing of Denise Matthews, the church fart formerly known as Prince's girl. Loved Vanity 6's album -- and even produced a CD compilation of Vanity's two solo LPs. Tragic that her previous crack use irrevocably damaged her kidneys, taking her from us way too soon. RIP, Nasty Girl.
