Longtime readers know I've been a Vanity 6 fan dating back to the summer of '82 when my brother Bill brought home their debut LP, which sadly turned out to be their only. What I didn't realize until this week, though, until receiving this drag video in my inbox and reading a lengthy post by a FB pal is that there were so many other gay boys of a certain age who adored them as well. (Hard to believe Denise Matthews has been gone six years.) I can't remember the last time I played this song, yet I knew every word and intonation. Mario "Hot Dog" Diaz would have been impressed!
P.S. Neither of Vanity's solo LPs were ever issued on compact disc, which led my friend Greg and me to produce our own 2-on-1 collection.
If I had it to do over, I'd have included "7th Heaven" from the "Last Dragon" soundtrack and "Undress" from the "Action Jackson" soundtrack, plus "Faraway Eyes," "Nature Boy" and "Undress" (re-recorded), the three available tracks from her shelved third album, which was to be called "Cherry Bomb."
And what's this about a shelved fourth album?
We also paired the debut Vanity 6 and Apollonia 6 albums on one disc, to help fill the void of the out-of-print former and nonexistent later CDs.
Greg ended up doing some Apollonia solo stuff too, which he updated to include "These Boots Are Made for Walking" before Wounded Bird did a nice official re-issue.
