Sibling Revelry

Am missing Billy, Terence and Jennifer this leisurely Siblings Day. I may be down a really special brother, but I have a lifetime of memories that I take with me everywhere I go. xo

Notes From My Nightstand

Hello, book lovers!

Here's a quick look at what I've been doing on the reading front:

Since my last post, I have finished:

"Bunny Bunny" by Alan Zweibel (sweet memories of Gilda Radner)
"Edie: An American Biography" by Jean Stein (re-read from high school)
"Slaves of New York" by Tama Janowitz (underwhelming)*
"The Friday Afternoon Club" by Griffin Dunne (best of the bunch)
"It's Always Something" by Gilda Radner (heartbreaking)
"Shirley, I Jest!" by Cindy Williams (too buttoned-up; Penny Marshall's was way more fun -- natch!)
"Hologram Boyfriends" by Mike Albo (some LOL moments)

I received a review copy of the beautiful new Pet Shop Boys book "Volume: The Complete Record."

And I am in the process of reading "Helter Skelter" by Curt Gentry and Vincent Bugliosi, which I started in 8th grade(!), and Toni Tennille's memoir (I brought my copy of the album "Love Will Keep Us Together" to show 'n' tell in third grade at Hiller Elementary and used my label maker to put my name on it!)

P.S. Just remembered I'm on Goodreads if you're so inclined. And would love to hear what you're reading in the comments.

*I remember back in the '80s that everyone said the film version of "Slaves of New York" sucked. But I actually thought it was very true to the book -- and at least it had Adam Coleman Howard as Stash. 🔥🔥🔥

Michael Musto's party-scene cameo was called "the film's only moment of credibility" by critic J. Hoberman of the Village Voice, which sounds about right!

Truth in Advertising

Spotted this on the subway today. While I'll admit that I've never actually heard a single note by this person, he may just be my "favorite" singer of the decade. (Why spoil it?!)

Flashback Friday

This photo memory sort of caught me off guard as I've pretty much had facial hair for the past three decades, dating back to when my ESL boyfriend snapped at me in 1996 during an unrelated fight that "You know I don't like goatee"!

Um, I do now. (My first beard and first selfie might be HERE!)

But I'm thinking I must have shaved in order to "look presentable" as my American Airlines pilot friend's free companion for our trip to London and Ireland in 2000. If you're thinking that doesn't quite make sense -- your passport photo would have been taken weeks if not years beforehand -- I would point you to THIS POST, which details my leaving all of my belongings in a hackney carriage and later having to stand in line at the American Embassy to procure a replacement on the spot!

As it would happen, the post also features a fun memory of my friend Larry Brickman, whose 20th death anniversary just passed. I marked the occasion by sending his partner, Chris, these photos I came upon while going through old files.

Of all the things in my lifetime, his freak death still haunts me the most. God, I miss that guy. xo

The Advocate: Josh Sorbe, a Democratic spokesman from South Dakota who is gay, highlighted why bimbogate is getting attention: "The Bryon Noem story perfectly encapsulates these people's hypocrisy and insecurity. They ostracize any queer person in public, but love to queen out and do gay shit behind the scenes. Get well, and I'll even cheer on your bad drag after they're out of power."
