Outweek: My friend Jay Blotcher writes: It's been joyous, albeit in a bittersweet way, to see performance artist, singer, actor, and comedian Frank Maya posthumously celebrated in a new one-man play ("Can I Be Frank?"). Let the rightful rediscovery begin. Thirty-five years ago this week, I interviewed Maya for Outweek magazine (August 29, 1990 edition) about his career detour into mainstream stand-up. He was both audacious and endearingly thin-skinned, and I recall how he called me after the article came out, challenging some of my observations. Remembering Frank, lost to AIDS in August of 1995.
