Weekend Tennis Roundup

Sinner and Sabalenka win big in another rain-delayed 1000. Full report plus all the ATP beef that's fit to post BELOW.

Will success in Cincinnati translate to the Big Apple?

Jannik Sinner has shown the world the incredible tennis he is capable of. But it was grit and determination that he relied on to capture the Cincinnati Open title. After battling through back-to-back three-setters against Andrey Rublev and Alexander Zverev, the No. 1 player in the ATP Rankings surged past home favorite Frances Tiafoe 7-6(4), 6-2 on Monday evening to lift the trophy at the Lindner Family Tennis Center.

Despite the victory, some questions remain. He appeared to be in bad shape during his semifinal match, so I can’t help but wonder if his body will hold up for the final major of the year.

Marcelo Arevalo and Mate Pavic charged into the ATP Masters 1000 winners' circle together in style on Monday at the Cincinnati Open. The fourth-seeded duo eased past Americans Mackenzie McDonald and Alex Michelsen 6-2, 6-4 in the championship match in Ohio.

Aryna Sabalenka harnessed her powerful serve to subdue American Jessica Pegula 6-3, 7-5 and win the Cincinnati Open on Monday, sending a message ahead of the year’s final major in New York. The two-time Australian Open champion dropped only nine points on serve and hit 10 aces as she overcame some jitters late in the second set in an otherwise confident performance to pick up her sixth WTA 1000 title.
