Suspect in Attack on Gay Journalist Randy Gener Arrested in New York

Great work, NYPD.

The New York Daily News reports:
Cops collared a man they say pummeled an award-winning journalist in Midtown earlier this month. Leighton Jennings, 24, was arrested for second-degree assault late Tuesday — more than a week after Randy Gener, 46, was attacked on Seventh Ave. near W. 54th St. on Jan. 17, cops said. It was not immediately clear how cops identified Jennings — of St. Albans, Queens — as the suspect wanted for the brutal beatdown. A police source said investigators found no evidence suggesting it was a bias attack, and that the fight apparently stemmed from an argument after Gener and Jennings' gal pal bumped into each other on the street. Jennings was waiting to be arraigned Wednesday as Gener, a Filipino-American editor, writer and artist, remained in critical condition at St. Luke's-Roosevelt Hospital. His mother, Ellen Wilson, said she came home from work just in time to see her son getting led out of their home in handcuffs.
