Is Tab Key to Mags?

Just got an e-mail from GQ trying to get me to download the magazine's app, touting this month's "exclusive content." I actually subscribe to the print edition, so I'm not sure why they would want me to merge to the tablet. (I thought print was holding onto its fans for dear life.) While I've dabbled in e-books and have even started to read most of my newspapers on my iPad, I still haven't taken the plunge with magazines -- and I subscribe to plenty. Anyone have any experience in this department, particularly with some of the titles I get, such as Tennis, Rolling Stone, Out/Advocate, Details and, as mentioned, GQ?

Hi Ken, I get Writer's Digest electronically. I download it to a specific folder, and then sync it to my Ipad, and then ignore it for several days because I've forgotten it's there. The print version never got ignored because it was always in plain sight. I would read through it, highlight articles, etc. that I wanted, and then I'd scan those into my computer for future reference. I like the concept of electronic magazines. I'm just not sure I'm right for it.

@Joe: That's EXACTLY what I was afraid I would do!!!

Actually. I love magazines on the ipad more than the paper version for a number of reasons. They are better for the environment. They are easier to carry on a plane/train. It's easy to take a screenshot of an article you like and file it away. No more damaged magazines in the mail.

GQ's ipad app is great, but a lot of magazines leave a lot to be desired. Details doesn't even have an app yet.

@BloggerJoe mentioned scanning magazines into his computer - I actually just take a screenshot of the ipad article and then save it to evernote. Evernote makes it easy to search all of the pages, file them away, etc...Much easier than scanning and storing a bunch of files on your computer.
