Sims for Pennsylvania

My pal Brian Sims is running to be Pennsylvania's first openly gay state legislator. I rarely donate to political campaigns, but I believe in Brian and think the void of LGBT representatives in a state the size of Pennsylvania is pretty unconscionable at this point. so I just threw him some cash. Keep up with Brian on Twitter HERE.

He's cute & he seems OK but if he's really ur friend Kenny, tell him not to put any Weiner pics out there. That first one looks like he's enjoyin' himself a wee bit too much. I smell trouble -- just sayin' . . .

Let us know if he's willing to set up a kissing booth; I'll bring my Amex card.

Sims candidacy brings up a sticky subject for me. In his case, he is running against Babette Josephs who has been a long-time staunch ally of the gay community and used her position as committee chair on the State Governance committee to block GOP efforts to enact a constitutional ban on same-sex marriage. She's fought very hard over the years for the gay community. Replacing her with Brian would mean a loss of seniority in that seat and that seniority gave her the ability to block a lot of discriminatory legislation.

This sticky issue for me is do you replace a true advocate for our community who cares about gay rights with someone just because they are gay (and cute). While I'm sure Brian will be an advocate for us, he won't the have seniority to obtain committee chairmanships which are crucial in protecting our community.

And Brian has already said that he's not interested in the State House in the long run. Josephs has been there for us - consistently - and, she, is in it for good. I sense for Sims, this is just something to do.

You never dump a known quantity with someone who isn't proven. He also has the ability to queen out big time. I once passed on to him someone else's suggestion that to help raise money for an openly gay candidate who would have been the first in Northeast PA if elected, he enter into a "date auction," at a local gay show bar. He totally queened out with a gigantic ego tsunami telling me to never contact him again. The very idea of his helping in this way was wayyyyyy beneath him because he's so special. Nah, stick with the friend who's been there whenever needed. To do otherwise is reverse discrimination.

Anonymous. Let me tell you my story. One time Brian posted a picture, on his facebook, of a delicious looking food item that looked like it had a lots of fat and cholestreol and he said he was having it for lunch. In jest I wrote on his personal facebook page that if he continued to eat stuff like that he would become a fat dude with a pretty face. He must have gotten all bent out of shape by that comment and he wrote back that:"If you think that is funny, well I don't." I didn't mean to offend him in any way whatsoever, but he took it as an affront. If someone had written that to me I just would have said: Yeah you're right, but I don't eat that kind of food all the time, but thanks for the advice." To make a long story short he totally queened out on me and said I couldn't communicate with him anymore, I am totally blocked from his facebook. I know we all have different personalities, but I did'nt expect such a harsh reaction when I meant no harm. If you read this Brian I'm so sorry if I offended you.
