'I did not have sexual relations with that man, Mr. Cobain'
Addressing the long-circulated rumor that he had sex with the late Nirvana frontman, Michael Stipe told The New York Post's Mandy Stadtmiller last night at the launch of Jane Pratt's new Web site, xojane.com, he was finally ready to set the record, um, straight:
"Kurt was a really sweet man, and we never had sex. All right? There's your exclusive."
If Stipe was acting annoyed by all of the gossip, I can't help but feel it's more than a bit disingenuous. The possibility that he once bedded Kurt Cobain has been as good for his reputation as the lesbian affair with Madonna has been for Sandra Bernhard.
