Music Box: Kylie Minogue

I must admit that when I got a sudden case of Kylie fever last year after hearing she was touring the U.S. for the first time in her 20-year career, I really didn't expect it to last once the disco ball had been retracted at Hammerstein Ballroom, where she wowed New York City for three nights straight. Even some of Kylie's biggest fans concede that albums were never her strong suit -- "Fever," "Body Language" and "X" have gone a long way toward proving she's more than a singles act -- so I was more than pleasantly surprised to discover that "Aprodite," the Aussie superstar's 11th studio album and first one I was (sort of) "waiting" for, is a start-to-finish winner filled with instantly catchy dance-pop tunes.
The disc's opening trio -- of "All the Lovers," Get Outta My Way" and "Put Your Hands Up (If You Feel Love" -- may just be the best 1-2-3 punch since Blondie's "Parallel Lines" blasted into teenagers' bedroom back in '78, with "Hanging on the Telephone," "One Way or Another" and "Picture This." The rest isn't far behind, with "Can't Beat the Feeling" and the title track sounding more than single-ready. An impressive effort from a superstar who -- unlike many others -- seems to be getting better with age.

Aphrodite is a good CD all the way through (there maybe a couple of weaker songs towards the end). Make sure to get the bonus tracks "Mighty Rivers" and "Heartstrings". Let me know if you need them. If they had replaced a couple of songs with these two it would have been an excellent CD. I ride a road bike 35-40 miles at a time and Aphrodite has been on repeat all summer!

Although "Fever" will always be my fave of hers, "Aphrodite" is a perfect pop album from beginning to end! And yes, I am definitely going to the live show in LA this time!!!
