World AIDS Day

As I thought about writing this World AIDS Day post just two years shy of the 30th anniversary of the AIDS epidemic, I found myself thinking wistfully of Keith Haring's Once Upon a Time, his 20-year-old mural in the men's room at the LGBT Community Center in Greenwich Village that in 1989 was itself a look back at a more, uh, innocent time in gay life. (Read about friends I've lost to this insidious disease HERE.) Be safe and be well, my friends.(Photos via James Wagner)

Also want to mention that World AIDS Day is always the launch of Bid 2 Beat AIDS, the annual eBay auction of Celebrity Experiences and signed memorabilia benefiting LIFEbeat -- the Music Industry Fights AIDS. Hundreds of items begin listing at noon today and are up for bid for 10 days. Click HERE for details and HERE to go to the eBay page. I actually met the organizer, legendary club promoter Chip Duckett, through this great cause when he was getting items signed by Bananarama for it and I had a stack of old records to be signed ... for me! Chip has turned out to be a great friend whose big heart and dedication to the fight against AIDS is a true inspiration. Be sure to check it out HERE!
