Last night, with the snowstorm imminent, Damian and I decided to race over to the cinema to see “Pillion,” which had been sold out every other time we’d tried. As you can see, the walk back was glorious -- as was the morning after.
As for the film: I enjoyed it enough and give the creators credit for exploring a little-visited topic. With that said, the subject matter is rather depressing to me -- and no matter how it’s presented, the idea of one person being treated as subhuman in a relationship is sad and dehumanizing. Truth be told, the film is really only entertaining because Alexander Skarsgaard is so hunky. If it were a typical “dom” (aka an average schlub), watching him do the things he did to that kid would have been pretty intolerable. (Sorry, but abuse masquerading as a kink is still abuse.) How anyone can describe it as “tender” is beyond me -- unless, say, you think a mugger handing a victim his glasses that flew off during an attack is tender.
