Thousands Rally in Capital to Protest Big Government

Thousands of protesters filled the west lawn of the Capitol and spilled onto the National Mall on Saturday to rally against President Obama and "big government."

From the reports I've read, here's the general breakdown of their concerns:

It's OK to:

  • Illegally wiretape their phones
  • Illegally intercept their e-mail messages
  • Legislate who they can and cannot marry
  • Legislate who can and cannot adopt children
  • Authorize $1.3 trillion in tax cuts for the wealthy during the time of war
  • Torture people

But under NO circumstances will they tolerate:
  • Health care reform to ensure that average Americans have access to affordable coverage, even if you lose your job.

  • “I want Congress to be afraid,” said Keldon Clapp, 45, an unemployed marketing representative who recently moved to Tennessee from Connecticut after losing his job. “Like everyone else here, I want them to know that we’re watching what they’re doing. And they do work for us.”

    OK, then.

Max Blumenthal has done one of his awesome videos from the scene. I posted it, but you can see it at Alternet.org

Our own march against this administration in October will be even bigger.

Have these people forgotten the enormous cost of Bush's wars on Iraq and Afghanistan? They look like morons.

I was on a flight to New Orleans, and a woman from Mississippi sat next to me and said "Isn't it awful what has happened to the country since the election?" I nearly crapped in my pants. Can people be that dumb?

OK, I'm a few days late on this post but...guys....the large majority of people who are protesting were also not happy with Bush in the last 2 years of his administration. No one in the media interviews are saying that Bush was great. They are basically saying that the ENTIRE CONGRESS is out of touch with the majority of the country. Also remember that these protests started before Health Care became the huge debate.

Why is it that when someone protests the liberals, you immediately come back with "Well Bush did this ________." Yeah, Bush wasn't great either but he's gone. And Obama isn't doing much better. He has done NOTHING for gays. In fact, it is interesting that as soon as the volume about Obama ignoring gays started to get loud, health care took over.

I encourage you to watch ALL the news stations (yes, including Fox). And actually watch the news. Not the 1 hour shows hosted by partisan people. If you watch enough of all the stations, you may learn a hell of a lot more. You can get the big picture.
