Page 1 Consider (06/03)

  • Bizarre Murder Triangle: Police say Robert Wone was drugged, sexually assaulted and stabbed while a guest at the Swann Street home in Dupont Circle of a college friend and his two polyamorous roommates. All three have been charged with obstructing justice in the case but more serious charges remain elusive. (WP)

  • Under the Big Black Sun: I'm so excited to be seeing L.A.'s legendary punk band X this Friday at the 9:30 Club in Washington. (Read about my favorite X album HERE.) However, was sad to read yesterday that singer Exene Cervenka announced that she'd been diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. (Rolling Stone)

  • Well-Endowed: Harvard University will endow a visiting professorship in lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender studies, a position that, it believes, will be the first endowed, named chair in the subject at an American college. (The Choice)

  • Full Disclosure: A group called WhoSigned.org says it will publicize the names of people signing petitions for Referendum 71, which seeks a public vote to overturn a new expansion of Washington state’s same-sex partnerships. (AP)

  • The End of the Beginning: A series of fascinating unpublished photos taken by a New York Times photographer from the last night of the Stonewall riots has been discovered, offering what is said to be the only known images from the uprising’s tumultuous finale. (NYT)

  • Common-Sense Ruling: California can prohibit public schools from discriminating on the basis of sexual orientation or identity, a judge ruled Monday, rejecting an invasion-of-privacy claim by a conservative group that said a new state law would force school officials to allow boys into girls' locker rooms. (SFGate)

  • Versatile, Indeed: In 2003, he was Freshman Magazine’s Man of the Year, but today, former gay porn star Marcus Allen is standing trial for murder. (Advocate)

  • Immigration Reform: Kudos to Sen. Patrick J. Leahy, who has offered a bill that would allow American citizens and legal immigrants to seek residency in the United States for their same-sex partners. “I just think it’s a matter of fairness,” he said Tuesday in an interview, noting that a number of American allies, including Canada, France and Germany, recognize same-sex couples in immigration law. (NYT)

  • Same Sex and the City: State Sen. Tom Duane says he has the votes to make same-sex marriage legal in New York (then why not throw on the floor right this second, Tom?), but Cynthia Nixon isn't taking any chances, continuing to lobby lawmakers about the civil rights issue of our time. (AP)

  • Do-Over: After a crushing two-vote defeat, gay marriage supporters hope to succeed Wednesday when a second vote is taken on expanded religious protections needed to win the New Hampshire governor’s signature. (AP)

  • My Three Sons: North Korean dictator Kim Jong Il is said to have picked his youngest son as his successor. Why the snub to the two older sons? The eldest embarrassed the family when he was caught slipping into Japan on a false passport, on his way to Tokyo Disneyland. And Kim is said to have dismissed the middle son for being "girlish," suggesting that he would not stand up to the West. (Gotta love the hair, though!) (NYT)

  • RIP: Legendary female impersonator Danny La Rue has died at 81. (NYT)
