Page 1 Consider (05/14)

  • Sun Devil in Training: President Obama showed there were no hard feelings as he delivered the commencement speech at Arizona State University yesterday in Tempe, declaring that the school was right not to give him an honorary degree: "I come to embrace the notion that I haven’t done enough in my life. I heartily concur. I come to confirm that one’s title, even a title like president of the United States, says very little about how well one’s life has been led -- and that no matter how much you’ve done, or how successful you’ve been, there’s always more to do, always more to learn, and always more to achieve." This guy's a class act. Now on with that gay agenda you promised us, OK??? (NYT)

  • Simply Outrageous: NPR's media relations person says the Village Voice's story about NRP censoring its own writer Nathan Lee's review of "Outrage" is "complicated fabricated." (Romenesko)

  • Lowe Blow? Both sides in the Rob Lowe v. Nanny dispute have agreed to drop their lawsuits. (I can't wait for the related sex tape to come out!) (People)

  • Mauricetown: Dwight Garner reviews Reynolds Price's new memoir, "Ardent Spirits," which, he writes, "seems most alive when it details what it was like to be young and gay and on the prowl in the buttoned-down 1950s." Read the review, and the book's first chapter HERE.

  • Better Off Red: In Moscow, two young women, wearing tuxedos and clutching bouquets, tried to become the first same-sex couple in Russia to legally wed. (NYT)

  • Father of the Year: A 36-year-old Bronx man who strangled his pregnant 14-year-old daughter and threw her naked body in a boiler last year was also the father of her unborn child, according to prosecutors. Why'd he kill her? He caught her writing "sex things" on her computer. (NYDN)

  • Orange Fever: Forget about the swine flu, people. A horrible epidemic of tanorexia is sweeping through Hollywood as I write this! (NYDN)

  • City by the Bay: Mayor (and gubernatorial candidate) Gavin Newsom says he's thrilled San Francisco was honored as the best domestic destination in America in Gay.com's 2009 travel awards: "I am proud to represent a city with so many historic firsts for the gay and lesbian community -- including the birth of the rainbow flag, home to the first openly gay men's chorus and the first LGBT chamber of commerce. We look forward to the readers of Gay.com creating their own 'only in San Francisco' experience." (Yeah, I've had a few of those, and they usually involved people performing oral sex in public.) (Gay.com)

  • Empire Pride: The state Assembly approved legislation on Tuesday that would make New York the sixth state to allow same-sex marriage. The vote shifts the debate to the state Senate, where advocates on each side are redoubling their efforts. (NYT)

  • Progress Report: Hospital visits can be doubly troubling for same-sex couples. (NYT)

  • Broadway Babe: Paul Rudd, looking cute as the host of a talkback with the cast of "Reasons to Be Pretty" at the Lyceum Theatre. (OFFICIAL SITE)

  • Outdone, Again: Well, the good old United States of America isn't there yet, but Uruguay(!) is the latest country set to lift the ban on gays in the military. (How are we NOT there yet, people?) (AP)

  • The Boys Are Back in Town: The Pet Shop Boys landed the cover of the new issue of Out. I just got their new album and am already loving "Did You See Me Coming?" and "Pandemonium," which are the exact same tracks my friend Bruce Derfler singled out in his recent review in EDGE Boston HERE.

  • Ooh to Be Ah: The original lineup of KajaGooGoo is reuniting for their first tour in 25 years and I'm not sure I can resist flying to England to see them. (Mirror)

I would KILL to see both Blondie & Pat together, surprisingly they have no plans to bring the tour to the Southern California area- the closest is one show in Costa Mesa (NO THANK YOU!).

The new PSB album is even better than "Fundamental" (which I adore almost as much as Bilingual- their best album EVER IMO).

As for Kajagoogoo, I am thrilled they finally got their shit back together (love them separately & together- although both failed on their own after their indidual post "White Feathers" albums (Limahl failed miserably after his first solo album and Kajagoogoo never did better after "Islands" either). Hopefully their next album can match or outshine "White Feathers". Yay!
