Page 1 Consider (05/07)

  • State of Play: I guess Matt Damon isn't the only Weiner Ben Affleck has taken a shine to. (NYT)

  • Gay It Forward: Sheryl Gay Stolberg takes a closer look at where President Obama stands on gay issues, exactly, and what recent advances in the fight for marriage equality might mean for him moving forward. (NYT)

  • Veronica's Pantry: Kirstie Alley says vegetarianism made her gain 83 pounds. Well, I guess technically she could be telling the truth. There isn't any meat in cake. (NYDN)

  • Body of Evidence: For the life of me, I can't imagine why they'd agree to give Ryan Reynolds his own "X-Men" spinoff for his Deadpool character. (The Envelope)

  • Matthew Shepard Act: NYT editorial board says the Senate should should pass legislation that would extend federal hate-crimes law to give substantive coverage to gay people. (NYT)

  • Bad Mother: I didn't realize that woman who wrote that borderline creepy Modern Love piece about loving her husband "more" than her children was married to Michael Chabon. Having been unable to get through his novel "The Mysteries of Pittsburgh," I'm even more confused. (WashPost)

  • Not Clowning Around: The Indianapolis Star reports that McDonald's has resolved a discrimination claim by two Hoosier men who said an employee at a downtown Louisville, Ky., restaurant had used anti-gay slurs against them. This is good news. Now I wonder if they can sue the paper for calling them Hoosiers. (IndyStar)

  • Worked Into a Lather: Some gay advocates are outraged over Fox television's bar of soap promo for the series finale of "Prison Break." (Advocate) Me? I'm just worried about what Amer thinks.

  • Battle of the Sexes 2: To promote National Tennis Month, Billie Jean King set out to sea to take on John McEnroe, doing his best Bobby Riggs, on a barge in the Hudson River yesterday in New York. They were supposed to dock at the Statue of Liberty for play to begin, but were stopped short due to safety concerns> Luckily, a willing USTA staff member was on hand to fill in for Lady Liberty. (USTA)

  • Goodbye Ms. Heartbreak: Given what's going on in New England and Iowa, I know it'll sound silly for me to still question whether or not real change is coming our way. (I'm sorry. I've been hurt this way before.) But that a famously Mormon woman (albeit a twice-divorced one) is speaking out about having a lesbian daughter -- calling her a "magnificent woman" and stating that she supports her daughter and believes in equal rights for gays and lesbians under the law -- still leaves me speechless. (The Globe got it right -- oh, except about the HEARTBREAK.) (AfterEllen)

  • Want Fries With That? I can't say I blame the president and his veep for heading out to my onetime residence Arlington, Va., to grab a bite at Ray's Hell Burger. In fact, if I ever become leader of the free world, I'm going to insist that Better Burger open a location on 17th Street before I agree to anything else. (Now did anyone see the hottie sitting at the table next to these two? He's cropped out of all the photos online, but I saw him in the print edition of the Post and wish I'd kept it!) (Caucus)

  • 30 Years Later: Janet Maslin review "After Etan," Lisa Cohen's new book about Etan Patz, the New York City schoolboy who disappeared 30 years ago this month. (NYT) For those in the NYC area, Cohen will discuss her book at Borders, Columbus Circle store, on Tuesday, May 26, at 7 p.m.

  • Double Trauma: On the promotional tour for her new book, "Getting a Grip," Monica Seles has never looked fitter or happier. What a shame she was binge eating when she returned to competition in 1995 following her brutal attack and was never able to move around the court as nimbly again. Now we'll never know what might have been if that lunatic hadn't attacked her -- or if she hadn't attacked herself. (USTA)

  • Beam Me Up: If this is what Captain Kirk and Mr. Spock look like now, is it any wonder fans wanna see them get it on? (Newsweek)

  • The Goodbye Girl: How cute that Renee Zellweger thinks she's the one taking a break from acting. (Obviously she didn't see the box office receipts -- or reviews -- for "New in Town.") (PopWrap)

  • Milk Man: Screenwriter Dustin Lance Black tops The Advocate's Forty Under 40 issue -- the Oscar winner for "Milk" made the acceptance speech of a lifetime with his passionate plea for gay rights. (Advocate) (Could Harvey Milk Day here soon?)
