Page 1 Consider (04/16)

  • Down for the Count? LuAnn de Lesseps, better known as the countess from “The Real Housewives of New York City,” has an autobiographical etiquette guide set for release in which she offers tips on how to seduce and hang on to a man. But will readers take advice from an author who just lost her royal hubby to a much younger woman? Some think yes. “Unlike any of the other girls on that show, because of her marriage she has had long experience as a member of an eclectic international set,” said David Patrick Columbia, who chronicles that world on his Web site, newyorksocialdiary.com. “None of those other girls ever went to Gstaad.” (NYT)

  • Stop the Insanity: WHY are my civil rights being given to me at the discretion of a Pentecostal minister who's been in the New York senate for two months? (Advocate)

  • That Didn't Take long: New York Archbishop Timothy Dolan -- who was only inaugurated yesterday -- said he will use the prominence of his new job to challenge gay marriage legislation in New York, an effort that has gained momentum thanks in part to Gov. David Paterson. How about just shutting the fuck up and continue writing checks to the victims of your church's endless abuse factory and butting out of my life? (TCP)

  • I Do, I Do, I Do: Model/actor Christopher Leabu is such a perfect groom. (Charmants)

  • When Woody Met Larry: If you thought having Larry David as a stand in for Woody Allen was a better idea than Kenneth Branagh or Jason Biggs, it sounds like you were right. (Can't wait to see "Whatever Works"!) (Observer)

  • Back of the Bus: Well, this sure sounds familiar. New Hampshire’s House of Representatives narrowly approved a bill last month that would legalize same-sex marriage, but the outcome of a possible Senate vote next week is uncertain. Gov. John Lynch, a fucking Democrat, opposes same-sex marriage, but he has not said whether he would veto the bill. He signed a law in 2007 allowing civil unions between same-sex couples. (Gee, thanks.) (NYT)

  • Bittersweet: The artificial sweetener wars are on -- and there's a new contender entering the ring. (NYT)

  • Bald Is the New Black: The new film dramatization of “Grey Gardens” attempts to explain how the style of Edith Bouvier Beale and her daughter, Little Edie, came to be, without so blithely celebrating it, as has happened in fashion. (NYT)

  • The Hipster Grifter: She's not quite the fake Rockefeller, but a good yarn: "I thought it was really strange that if she was dying of lung cancer, she’d be smoking pot.” (Observer)

  • Secret Gardener: Meet the woman who was hired by Sally Quinn and Ben Bradlee to bring new life to the grounds of Grey Gardens. (NYT)

The Real Housewives of NYC is hilarious mainly because of the misnomer. It's what they call "irony".

Anyway tennis fan, did you see/hear that Justin Gimelstob made a name-check appearance? No video, but I did post about it the other day.

    Hope you're well
