Cart Before the Horse

Before we get too concerned about helping this young woman graduate, why doesn't someone help her learn to spell her name?

That's the biblical spelling.. My niece spells it the same way...

Maybe she can help from her sisters, Bactine, Lavoris and Listerine :P

Seriously, the whole "give my child an originally spelled name" is pretty stupid.

uhm... i think that's the point... Help her education so she can learn how to spell her name...properly?

Actually, that is a relatively common spelling of the name. I have a good friend who spells it that way.

Other less common ways include Rebecka and Rebekka.

The Bible teaches us many great things in addition to the proper spelling of Rebekah. (What kind of commie thinks it's "Rebecca"??)

But I'm struggling with some of that advice, and maybe Rebekah and Isaac and Noah and John, Paul, George and Ringo could help.

When I burn a bull on the altar as a sacrifice, I know it creates a pleasing odor for the Lord (Lev. 1:9). The problem is my neighbors. They claim the odor is not pleasing to them. How should I deal with this?

I would like to sell my daughter into slavery, as it suggests in Exodus 21:7. In this day and age, what do you think would be a fair price for her?

I also know that I am allowed no contact with a woman while she is in her period of menstrual uncleanliness (Lev. 15:19-24). The problem is, how do I tell? I have tried asking, but most women take offense.

Now I have a neighbor who insists on working on the Sabbath. Exodus 35:2 clearly states he should be put to death. Am I morally obligated to kill him myself?

Then, Lev. 25:44 states that I may buy slaves from the nations that are around us. A friend of mine claims that this applies to Mexicans but not Canadians. Can you clarify?

A friend of mine also feels that even though eating shellfish is an abomination (Lev. 10:10), it is a lesser abomination than homosexuality. I don't agree. Can you settle this? And Lev. 20:20 states that I may not approach the altar of God if I have a defect in my sight. I have to admit that I wear reading glasses. Does my vision have to be 20/20, or is there some wiggle room here?

LOVE your blog, but this post doesn't sit so well with me. i could totally understand if the name was "anfernee" or one of those other spell-it-how-you-say-it names, but "rebekah" is a fairly common spelling.

would you be sharing this witty (and strangely classist) observation if she were a pretty blonde white girl (yep, i went there) and her name was "kelli" or "kathryn"?

i'm not so sure...

sorry to be the party pooper, but i love checking your blog everyday and i'm just letting you know this post was pretty off.

In the bible she was best known for her work as Rebekah featuring Isaac.

Anonymous: you obviously don't visit this site too often or else you would know every other post is making fun of some misspelling. But to answer your question about "pretty" white people more specifically, the answer would be YES!!!! and YES!!!!
