Page 1 Consider (02/16)

  • Class Act: The way John Amaechi has handled the media storm surrounding Tim Hardaway's incendiary comments about gay people is truly an example to all people. Instead of lashing out at his former colleague, he's taken a more reflective look at what Hardaway's comments mean in the big scheme of things: "Finally, someone who is honest. It is ridiculous, absurd, petty, bigoted and shows a lack of empathy that is gargantuan and unfathomable. But it is honest. And it illustrates the problem better than any of the fuzzy language other people have used so far." (PopPolitics)

  • Gloria Peterbilt: Loehmann’s has agreed to add "gender identity and gender expression" to its corporate non-discrimination policy as part of an agreement ending a complaint against the company by New York transsexual woman. Jane Galla on two occasions was ordered out of fitting rooms and restrooms at the chain’s flagship store on Manhattan’s Seventh Avenue. Bottom line: trannies like bargain designer label fashions too. Get with it, Loehmann's. (365Gay)
  • Killer Abs: Hunky rocker/personal trainer Paul Cortez, 26, was found guilty of second-degree murder for slashing the throat of his ex-girlfriend, 21-year-old Catherine Woods, on Nov. 27, 2005, in her Manhattan apartment. He faces 25 years to life in prison at his March 23 sentencing. I'm guessing his "we were having sex while she was on her period so that's why my bloody fingerprints are on the walls" story didn't really go over that well with jurors. (AP)

  • Turn of the Tides? Wow, this is news. The authorities in Jamaica actually made an effort to assist three gay men who were being assaulted? I thought they usually organized them. (365Gay)

  • Hairy Ruling: The Food and Drug Administration has just approved a hair-thickening comb to zap away baldness. Just who is Ron Popeil blackmailing? (AP)

  • Another Fiennes Mess: The Qantas flight attendant at the center of an alleged mile-high sexual encounter with Hollywood actor Ralph Fiennes may be about to lose her job, but experts say she could sell her story for as much as $400,000. Let's see: Flight attendants have virtually no benefits and make about $18,000 a year, so this is about 22 years salary for one first-class "job." Perhaps the Association of Flight Attendants should be coaching others on these type of early retirement plans. (Age)
  • Sign of the Times: Even practicing Catholics in Italy want the Pope to butt out of the country's same-sex relationship debate. (365Gay)
