Tina Turner Says Goodbye at 83
I know we're all heartbroken to hear that Tina Turner has left us at 83 -- she was simply the best, thrilling us with riveting music and live performances for six decades -- but I am happy that she is no longer in pain, following years of cancer treatment and dialysis.
A spokesman confirmed the legendary singer’s death.
“She enchanted millions of fans around the world and inspired the stars of tomorrow,” her representatives wrote on her Instagram page Wednesday. “Today we say goodbye to a dear friend who leaves us all her greatest work: her music.”
It's hard to think of a woman whose life's up and downs were more public than hers, yet somehow she managed to keep a private persona -- letting her spectacular talent do the talking.
My guy knew just how to console me, immediately putting on “Better Be Good to Me,” an all-time favorite of mine.
Rest in peace, Tina. You are most loved.
Everyone: Hug your diva a little tighter tonight.🙏

Song of the Day: 'Don't Turn Around' by Tina Turner
The sexy video for Tina Turner's 1986 hit single "Typical Male" came on over the week -- the suited-up hunk who drove me wild as a teen now reminds me of a male version of Ronan Farrow -- which led to a surprising discovery: Its non-album B-side was actually the original version of "Don't Turn Around," an Albert Hammond and Diane Warren composition you may recall later became a huge hit for Ace of Base seven years later. Have a listen to Tina's more emotional version below -- and you can also hear Bonnie Tyler's 1988 take HERE.
Other notable versions: Luther Ingram (1987) and a reggae take by Aswad (1988).

Song of the Day: 'One of the Living' by Tina Turner
Watched the Tina Turner episode of AXS TV's "Rock Legends" over the weekend and somehow managed to fall in love with my private dancer all over again. Took me straight back to 1983 when my brother Bill brought home from college a copy of the on-the-comeback-trail diva's cover of Al Green's "Let's Stay Together" -- and it was as if the British Electric Foundation had struck gold. So many great moments -- seeing her perform her first hit ("A Fool in Love" with Ike), her Acid Queen getup in "Tommy," Damian and I both confessing our undying love for "I Don't Wanna Fight." But perhaps the one that stood out most was that they opted to play the lesser-remembered single from "Mad Max: Beyond Thunderdome," which hit No. 15 on the Hot 100 back in 1985. Although "We Don't Need Another Hero" is an anthem for the ages, I remember preferring "One of the Living" at the time -- so it was nice to see (and hear) it get its due!

Song of the Day: 'What's Love Got to Do With It' by Tina Turner
It's always cause for celebration when Tina Turner is back in the news -- this time for Kygo's remix of her classic anthem "What's Love Got to Do With It." The DJ previously blessed us by getting Whitney Houston's "Higher Lover" to the masses.

Song of the Day: 'Sweet Rhode Island Red' by Ike and Tina Turner
Damian and I are en route to Providence this morning, where we'll be spending my birthday weekend. Have never been -- the closest I've come is Newport, home of the International Tennis Hall of Fame -- but I've heard nice things about the quaint college town from my friend Johnny. Looking forward to relaxing -- in between stressing out over Roland Garros -- and plenty of quiet time with my guy along with good food and birthday drinks!

Song of the Day: 'Missing You' by Tina Turner
Was saddened to read that Tina Turner's oldest son, Craig Turner, whom she had as an 18-year-old and was later adopted by Ike Turner, took his own life over the summer after having recently fallen in love. Tina broke her silence recently saying: “I still don’t know what took him to the edge because at that stage he had said to me that he had never met a woman that he felt that way about. He was bringing her to meet me [for] his birthday in August. He had decorated his apartment that I bought him years ago. He had gotten a new job with a prominent real estate company in California, [which] he was very happy with."
Tina, 78, said in an interview with BBC News that her son typically kept to himself, and suspects he suffered from loneliness before his death.
“I think it was something with being alone. But when I think that, why didn’t he call the new girlfriend that give him the lift?” she lamented. “He was an introverted person. He was very shy, so I didn’t know either, except now when I listen back to our last conversations, I notice a change. The last few times we talked, the conversations were different, and I didn’t know that until after the suicide.”
Despite her son’s heartbreaking and unexpected death, Turner said she intends to “be around for a while,” and isn’t worried about her own mortality in the least bit.
“Death is not a problem for me,” she said before adding; “I really don’t mind leaving.”
