Titles for Sinner, Mboko, Tjen and Blinkova; Martina returned to Czechia to be honored by the president; plus all the ATP beef that's fit to post BELOW.
Jannik Sinner defeated Felix Auger-Aliassime 6-4, 7-6 to win Paris, his fifth Masters 1000 trophy but the first since October last year. The victory pushes him back into the No. 1 spot, although I'm hoping a decent showing by Carlos Alcaraz in the ATP Finals will help the Spaniard claim the year-end No. 1 spot he so richly deserves.
Harri Heliovaara and Henry Patten captured their first ATP Masters 1000 title on Sunday at the Paris Masters, where they defeated second seeds Julian Cash and Lloyd Glasspool 6-3, 6-4.
Victoria Mboko defeated Spain's Cristina Bucsa 7-5, 6-7 (9), 6-2 to win the Hong Kong Open on Sunday. The 19-year-old from Burlington, Ontario, fired nine aces and earned her second WTA title of the season after lifting the trophy in Montreal in August. With the win Mboko breaks into the Top 20, rising from #21 to #18 -- having started the year ranked #333!
Indonesia's Janice Tjen made recent WTA Tour history on Sunday at the Chennai Open as the first player from her country to win a tour-level singles title in 23 years. In the title match at the WTA 250 stop in India, the 23-year-old former Pepperdine University star added another milestone to a season of firsts this year with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Australia's Kimberly Birrell.
Anna Blinkova captured her second career WTA Tour title (following Cluj-Napoca 2022) with a 6-3, 6-3 defeat of 17-year-old wild card Lillian Tagger in Jiujiang.
