Australian Court Rejects Djokovic's Case

Novak Djokovic has lost his deportation appeal so will not be allowed to defend his Australian Open title -- opening the door for Rafael Nadal to break the 20-majors record. Based on CDC guidelines, Djokovic also will not be able to play the U.S. Open if he continues to refuse to get vaccinated, further jeopardizing his legacy. I still have just one question: WHY did they grant him an exemption in the first place, wasting everyone's time for nearly two weeks?

UPDATE:

Forget Paris?

UPDATE 2:

I do find it interesting that, even in a “What about all the women Bill Cosby didn’t drug and rape?” kind of way, soooo many lower-tier players are defending Novak and singing his praises for being kind to them and for all he’s done for the game.

If he wanted to play that much why not just get vaccinated? I mean seriously

All he needed to do was get the shot. He brought this on himself.

To me, the big question is whether he will learn anything from this, because right now, there are few tennis fans outside of Serbia who are in any hurry to see him again

He lied at every step of the way. Our government can only go on the information provided on the visa application. The truth came out (thanks to social media) and his lies were exposed. End of story. Stop blaming the government and realise the Djoker is a dodgy liar. Of course it could all have been avoided by getting the jab like 97% of Australians, I respect his right to say no, but he must respect our laws and not lie.

Always enjoy watching him play, but his anti-vaxx attitude is a major downer on that. He clearly thinks the rules don't apply to him, and given his success I'm sure they usually don't. We've all had enough of COVID and his attitude on this topic needs adjustment.

glad to hear another celebrity isn't getting special treatment. get the shot...that's all you have to do.

@BB: Yes, but why do I feel certain Renata Voracova's exemption was equally bullshit yet she was allowed to compete -- public health enemy no. 1 -- before Morrison saw an opportunity to score points via Djokovic, which suddenly meant Voracova had to go too?

My question is: he was definitely against getting the shot. That makes a "medical exemption" based on his having a positive test in mid-December his only way into the Australian Open, yes? So - what if he hadn't had that positive test in December? Do we really think he would have just passed on the Australian Open? The timing of his positive test has been questioned by Der Spiegel who took a look at the digital time stamps, and there's some weirdness there, according to DS. https://www.spiegel.de/international/world/novak-djokovic-were-the-results-of-his-positive-pcr-test-manipulated-a-cf3e7344-e98f-4fc3-8bb3-7727d4795e97

Basically, Novak NEEDED a positive test in the middle of December, or he wouldn't have received an exemption in lieu of getting the jab. Yes?

Randy, I agree with you completely. That’s why I think the positive test was bogus. And he’s so arrogant that he didn’t think he’d have to share the timeline, which is why he didn’t go through the charade of isolating himself.
