Song of the Day: 'Give a Little Love' by the Bay City Rollers

Sad to read about the sudden death of Les McKeown, lead singer of the Bay City Rollers. For a moment in time, anyone over 50 was a fan of the group's string of hits -- the No. 1 smash "Saturday Night" being the most memorable. What most of us didn't know is that the group was a hot bed of salacious -- and criminal -- behavior.

One Twitter hit the nail on head when writing
"I am not kidding when I say this: the behind the scenes story of the Bay City Rollers and Tam Paton, my god. Makes Lou Pearlman's actions seem gentle and sweet. ... peace to McKeown's memory."
Boy Culture has all the juicy details, including McKeown's date rape when he was 19 -- he claims the lasting effect of the assault was that it made him horny for men from time to time, which he then acted on throughout his marriage to a woman -- HERE.

This wasn't released in the U.S. so didn't chart, but was a No. 1 in the band's native Britain

And because Brits are notoriously fickle, this perfect single was released but didn't chart in the U.K.(!), but hit No. 1 in the U.S. and Canada

What a coincidence. "Saturday Night" popped up on my playlist this morning while I was on walking on my treadmill.

The Les McKeown sung version of “Saturday Night” was never released in the U.K. as a single. The released version, from a few years before, had a different lead singer, Nobby Clark.
