Song of the Day: 'Like the Weather' by 10,000 Maniacs

Another joyous youthful memory courtesy of MTV Classic. I lost track of Natalie Merchant after her (quite good) solo debut, "Tigerlily," yet I can't offer any explanation as to why. Any superfans out there wanna bring me up to date on the past 25 years?

She rerecorded Tigerlilly a number of years ago, as well with an accompanying documentary film. I got see the film in Toronto, along with a Q&A with her afterwards. She also came to Toronto about 5 years ago and played with show with a string group. Both were amazing

She had a number of solo disks, each more self-absorbed than the last that catered to dozens. I'd say they were somewhat interesting, but in a way that isn't sustainable in terms of fanbase. While I loved 10k Maniacs, during their tours, her constant put-downs of towns they played and the audiences who attended wasn't exactly endearing to those who paid.

Sort of agree with both of the commenters above. Subsequent discs "Motherland" and "Natalie Merchant" both had a few good songs on them and recent live performances show that her voice in top form, but it's so hard to separate that from her insufferable personality. I remember attending a 10,000 Maniacs concert in the late 80's where she warned the audience to stop singing along or she would leave the stage... ugh!
