First Marc Almond and now this? So nice to see the late-great Laura Branigan's music lives on!
UPDATE:
And now a friend just pointed me to this early '90s Spanish cover by Ricky Martin! Does this mean he technically came out in 1993?

I remember the Brannigan version... when it came out I was managing the music department at downtown Woolworth's. I played it to death. Such a revelation. Thanks for sharing this.
Always had a huge significance to me and my coming out. Everytime I snuck out of Santa Barbara to go to the Oddysey or Studio one in WeHo, this felt like my theme song, living among the creatures of the night, losing my own "Self control"...
Interestingly Laura Branigan’s version (still the best IMO) is itself a cover of Italopop artist Raf.
