Ronald Reagan was a million times more effective at spreading HIV than all the bathhouses in the world. But thank god the Centers for Disease Control under his administration at least had the sense to change the name of the disease the virus causes to Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome from Gay-Related Immune Deficiency 35 years ago this week. As much as I appreciate a properly used hyphen, can you imagine where we'd be today if that had stuck? (Now what ever happened to ARC?)
