Weekend Tennis Roundup

Sexy Borna Coric -- of TWERKING fame -- claimed his first ATP World Tour title in Marrakech on Sunday. Coric overcame third seed Philipp Kohlschreiber 5-7, 7-6(3), 7-5 for the crown. The hot-ass Croat came from a break down in both the second and third sets -- and nearly two breaks in the third -- and saved five championship points before sealing the deal. Congrats!

Meanwhile in Houston, Steve Johnson -- looking Scruff-ready after sporting a mustache for a while -- defeated Thomaz Bellucci 6-4 4-6 7-6 in 2 hours and 24 minutes to capture the U.S. Men's Clay Court Championship. This was the second ATP title for Johnson, after Nottingham last June, and also his first on clay. Johnson became the 15th American to bring home the trophy, further proving that Pete Sampras was a moron when he claimed growing up in the U.S. prevented him from winning Roland Garros -- despite peers Michael Chang, Jim Courier and Andre Agassi all succeeding on the dirt.

Over on the women's side,  Francesca Schiavone not only took home the crown in Bogota, the qualifier won her first main draw WTA level match in 14 months in doing so. The 2010 French Open champ beat Lara Arruabarrena in the final to become the fourth-oldest woman to win a WTA title, at 36 years, nine months and 23 days. "I'm very happy and emotional', Schiavone said after the win. 'Today was a disaster match, but winning was the most important thing. Lara is improving a lot; I think she pulled a muscle and couldn't run as well that she could, but I thank God that I could win the last three games. Play in this altitude is difficult, in the second set, it was hard because she started to play well. But she had a little injury in her leg so I started to move her around the court, and perform my backhand to ensure the victory." Might she be the Italian Kimiko Date?

UPDATE:

Happy to hear Petra Kvitova is attempting to compete at the French Open, just five months after being brutally stabbed in her apartment.

Coric is still so young but he just oozes sex appeal. Glad he finally won his first ATP title. I look forward to watching him [for a few reasons] for many years to come.
