North Carolina, U.S. Sue Each Other Over Anti-LGBT Law


Somewhere Lee Atwater is chuckling that the Southern Strategy lives on in the 21st century.

Towleroad reports:
U.S. Attorney General Loretta Lynch announced the Department of Justice will be filing a federal lawsuit against the state of North Carolina over the state’s anti-LGBT bathroom bill, HB 2. As previously reported, HB 2 prevents transgender citizens from using bathrooms in accordance with their gender identity. Lynch excoriated HB 2 in her news conferences, denouncing the law as “state-sponsored discrimination.” She also spoke personally about the “beautiful” state of North Carolina, her home state, and assured transgender Americans that the DOJ and Obama administration support them in their fight for civil rights. 
“We see you. We stand with you…And please know that history is on your side,” said Lynch.

Meanwhile, North Carolina Governor Pat McCrory doubled down on his gross misstep, filing a lawsuit against the U.S. over the matter.

the gop has morphed the strategy to encompass the nation, aiming to unite all religious conservatives to embrace racism, sexism, homophobia, and religious imperialism - it’s not simply a southern strategy any longer.
