Impressive that Woody Allen is still setting records -- his "Café Society" is slated to open the Cannes Film Festival, making him the first director to do so three times -- yet grumpy old me is still finding it hard to get excited about a movie starring Kristen Stewart and Jesse Eisenberg.
The lead-up of a double dose of Emma Stone sure didn't help, nor did knowing that Miley Cyrus stars in his Amazon Prime series.
What's weird is it's not just me being a curmudgeon. Almost all of his best films -- "Crimes and Misdemeanors," "Hannah and Her Sisters," "Radio Days," "Manhattan" and, more recently, "Blue Jasmine" -- were about middle-aged people, so his youthquake misstep is entirely self-inflicted.

I haven't seen any of the Twilight series but I've heard about Kristen Stewart's wooden performances. I suspect if you haven't seen Camp X-Ray, Still Alice or Clouds of Sils Maria, you don't know how great she can be. I'm not sold on her range but, similar to Hilary Swank, when she's good, she's extremely good.
Her performance in Clouds of Sils Maria won numerous critics awards - probably more than anyone who was actually nominated for an Oscar this year - but she was overlooked by the Academy. In fact, she won France's Cesar Award for the role - the first American actress to ever claim the prize. I'd certainly give her a chance in Allen's new film.
Jesse and Kirsten starred in last years 'American Ultra'. It wasn't shown much, but I kind of enjoyed the 2 hours.
