If you're looking for something to watch this holiday weekend, I recommend HBO's "Larry Kramer: In Love and Anger," which we saw last night on demand. Although I'm well versed in the "How to Survive a Plague" years of the documentary, Larry's pre-activism life in Hollywood was an eye-opener for me -- as was his segue into writing novels. (The backlash against his "Faggots" sets up the greatest gay told-you-so moment in the history of the world.) So many familiar faces are included -- Mike Signorile, Peter Staley Vito Russo (who also has a great doc about him) -- and it was so bittersweet seeing a young Rodger McFarlane in action. Larry Kramer rubbed a lot of people the wrong way over the years -- he scared the shit out of me the first time I was near him -- and I think it's fair to say we should all thank the stars above that he did.
For those who don't have HBO, it appears to be on YouTube right now. Watch before it's taken down!
