I really don't understand HBO. They give equally low-rated "Treme" four seasons but cancel "How to Make It in America," "Looking" and now "Togetherness" after two -- and renew "Vinyl" after a dismal premiere and even more horrific follow-up ratings? You'd think they'd learn their lesson with "The Comeback" but apparently not. The thing that really pisses me off is that I actually like the way British and Australian shows don't go on forever like shows here in the U.S. ("The Office," "How I Met Your Mother," "Dexter," et al.) But by American standards, these HBO seasons are REALLY short -- so even shows that should have a shorter shelf life are being robbed by just two cable seasons. (The two main story lines on "Togetherness" definitely needed more time.) Very disappointed in HBO, again. I guess the Duplass brothers don't have the Midas touch after all ...

And what was wrong with Treme? Not only a critical hit from the lauded creator-duo of The Wire, but an important docudrama about rebuilding of a decimated New Orleans. If you want to complain about HBO, complain about Entourage ever being produced or True Blood being canceled outright (it was such a fun show, they really should have taken a more proactive role in getting that show, admittedly at a nadir at the end, in particular S4-5,7, back on track. That show had so much untapped potential left in it. I miss my guilty pleasure!)
