Some interesting bullet points from Logo's landmark "Gay Men in America" study that was just released:
According to the survey, 61 percent of gay men in their 20s and 30s believe gay community was more united in the past. Other findings include: 85 percent of gay men ages 18-49 agree, “even as gay people become more accepted, we should have places that are just for us” and that, “it’s sad to see gay neighborhoods and bars disappear.” 2 in 3 gay men (67 percent) agree “my life is more interesting because I’m gay,” and 3 in 4 (75 percent) agree that being gay “has had a positive effect on my life.”
55 percent of gay men in their 20s also view being gay as extremely or very important to their identity. 55 percent of gay men in their 20s view being gay as extremely or very important to their identity, marking a double-digit increase versus gay men in their 40s (40 percent). An overwhelming 95 percent of gay men agree that, “younger gay men are embracing their gay identity more so today than in the past.”FYI: I've been out since 1987 and in all my years -- which include many of gay men's darkest -- I have only been friends with one guy who "wished" he were straight, and this was the obvious result of a hyper-religious upbringing. He's since straightened his view out on this, pun intended.

Of course we are more interesting and exciting because we are gay. When you're chased through the streets like rats, whether metaphorically or literally, you tend to live a more colorful life.
And Gay men who are beyond the age range studied also think that our lives were more interesting, even if we wonder that being straight would have been easier
Remember -- Anyone 50-something or more lost a LOT of friends, and lived through a LOT of fear.
