Boy Culture reviews the opening night of Madonna's REBEL HEART tour in Montreal, which he describes as "fun loving" and "hits laden." From what I gather, she performed "Candy Shop" and ruins "Music" with part of "Get Stupid" and did a whopping NINE songs off the new album -- plus interluded a 10th and 11th -- yet chose to skip the two "Rebel" tracks that are universally loved and praised, "Ghosttown" and "Joan of Arc." Talk about a rebel! Read HERE.
The hits sound fun, but I've fallen for that "Dress You Up/Into the Groove/Everybody/Lucky Star" medley trick before when Olivia Newton-John pulled it at the Nokia Theater a decade ago!

Where do you get a HARD CANDY medley from? She did "Candy Shop." As for hits, she managed to do "Vogue," "Like a Virgin," "Material Girl," "Dress You Up," "Everybody," "Into the Groove," "La Isla Bonita," "True Blue," "Who's That Girl", "Deeper and Deeper, "Music," "Justify My Love" and "Holiday." Doesn't get more hits-laden than that! You should see this show. You'd love it. It's less about hydraulics and much more about fun and musicality. I'm sure she will put "Ghosttown" in the set list randomly as she moves along, perhaps in place of "La Vie en Rose." The new stuff is seamless with the old stuff. You will not regret it.
The "Get Stupid" medley from the STICKY & SWEET era is referenced on Wikipedia.
The inclusion of older material is appealing, but many of the songs that were actually on REBEL HEART -- which she does in full as opposed to the "Dress You Up/Into The Groove/Everybody/Lucky Star" trick (ONJ pulls that crap, too) -- are pretty intolerable.
Glad you had fun!
Thanks for the heads up. I was gonna spring for tickets for a show at The Garden next week. With this setlist -- no thanks!
Video of Montreal -- including "La Vie En Rose" in French -- shows the queens dying with admiration in the aisles. so I would not be so quick to write her off.
What I saw made me wish I could be there, and I have not been to a concert in decades
