Novak Defeats Roger for U.S. Open Crown

Happy that Novak Djokovic won a second U.S. Open title, having squandered four other finals. But the match was uncomfortable for me to watch: I spent a decade being a die-hard Roger Federer fan, but decided to allow myself to (generally) root for the better player in his matches once he broke Pete Sampras' record. And over the years, I've become a big Djokovic fan as I've seen him mature from being a cry-baby head case to a gracious champion and humanitarian. But seeing Roger lose tonight was disconcerting because it was so obvious that the old Roger would not have squandered so many break points -- most certainly not when he was up a break point to go up 5-3 and serve for the third set, which would have put him up two sets to one. (He completely overhit a routine forehand that was once his bread and butter.) And Novak wasn't even playing that great. That being said, it's not the Serb's fault that Andy Murray and Rafael Nadal have gone down a notch, which has elevated Federer to the de facto "top rival" in 2015. Still, as much as they are trying to build Djokovic vs. Federer as this great rivalry, it's really like the latter is playing with one arm tied behind his back, he's just so good that he almost makes it seem like it's a level playing field.

P.S. Love that my post about a supposed c**k shot of Novak immediately starts trending whenever he plays on television!
