I guess it's telling, and irksome, what a niche sport tennis has become Stateside (even as it grows ever more popular internationally) when only the local (as regards the USO) broadsheets NYT and WSJ offer small lead sections on the finale of the biggest American tennis event, featuring an exciting contest between the two biggest men's stars today, whereas the NFL in just its opening week somehow merits sizeable top-of-page blocks everywhere else. (The LAT at least gratifyingly ignores football completely, offering a headline to the USO result, albeit space to a basketball obit.)
