Transgender Woman Repeatedly Run Over, Killed in Kansas City Parking Lot

Another tragic murder of a transwoman of color. Please contact local police if you can help identify the driver, whom it seems she knew at least tangentially.

Tamara Dominguez escaped discrimination in Mexico only to find death over the weekend in a Missouri church parking lot, her close friends said. The 36-year-old got out of a Chevrolet Avalanche only to be repeatedly run over by the vehicle’s driver, a witness told authorities of the 3 a.m. Saturday killing in Kansas City. “She had a lot of dreams,” her unidentified boyfriend told the Kansas City Star through an interpreter. She came from a place where she suffered a lot. That is why she came here.” He last saw her Friday night and assumed she went out to drink with friends like she often did. His worry grew as the night dragged on and his phone calls went unanswered. Homicide detectives were at his door Saturday afternoon, he told the paper. The Veracruz native’s deaths adds to the growing number of transgender women of color who have been killed in 2015, a statistic that spiked in the past week with at least four known homicides. Paramedics found Dominguez unconscious in a parking lot south of Independence Ave. in northeast Kansas City shortly after the driver fled. Her car was parked two blocks away from where she was killed. Investigators are looking for a black or dark-color Chevy Avalanche with a lower body that is gray. The vehicle also has tinted windows and dark custom wheels. The vehicle has a loud muffler, police said.
