Columbia House Files for Bankruptcy

The compact-disc business of Columbia House folded a few years ago, but now even the DVD side is dead. Inevitable news, but sure makes me nostalgic for the days of picking a dozen records at once and being on Cloud 9 for weeks on end. Got all my Blondie records except "The Hunter" through them -- always vinyl, never cassette -- then made everyone I know and their brother join so I could get the three bonus picks. I also remember the feeling of dread when I would forget to mail back the "Selection of the Month" notice -- invariably something I didn't want -- and then get slapped with a bill for $19.99, which is how they made money. (Just how much did it cost to mail one album?!!!) It all sounds funny now, but it was awfully fun back then. Read HERE.

Glad to know it was not just me joining Columbia records. I used to buy the required albums, then cancel and start all over.

Them, BMG and Book of the Month club. They each got their thousand (roughly) out of me.
