Even I -- the Thomas Roberts Manhunt guy -- thought THIS was beyond the pale. (I love that they let the extortionist remain anonymous, but dragged the client -- who is NOT a public figure and is NOT anti-gay -- through the mud.) After much backlash, Gawker management took the post down and "apologized," but now its editorial staff is saying they're not happy about that, either. What did you think about the whole fiasco?
Anyone else think the john is better looking than the whore?

I saw the story last night and I thought it was outrageous of Gawker to run it. Even assuming it's true, the fact that they let the extortionist, who was clearly inappropriate and made unreasonable requests upon his client to begin with, win by publishing the story was mind-boggling. There's no justification for it at all! Gawker has proven itself to have standards below the worst tabloid.
And yet you are publishing his photo. You seem to want to play both sides here. After this and the petty and insulting 'dazed and confused' post of Harper Lee, you have shown your true colors. Adios.
You seem smart.
The story was poorly written and more effort should have been placed on balancing it out. The 'source' should not have had anonymity. Removing it was wrong, period. They had already kicked the barn door open and threw the horse out on its ass. The fact it was the financial team and not the editors who removed it shows that money talks and all else is bullshit, even integrity.
It was a news story. Even the most ardent of supporters who keep to the background are still not above being reported on. They just shit all over what could have been a serious expose.
Let's be honest, Denton is anything but upset right now. Their page hits have skyrocketed. I'm guessing they'll try to drag this out as long as they can. Gotta get that $$$$.
First, I though he looked like a member of the Walsh family.
Second, it seemed to me nothing more than tabloid gossip, appealing to voyeristic curiosity but nothing more. Not really newsworthy in any way.
And most importantly, that hooker is bat shit crazy. The most bizarre assortment of conspiracies and the second coming.
You might as well say the name of the slimy crazy hooker, since you have his pic up. It's Leif Derek Truitt from Austin, TX & his porn name is Brodie Sinclair. I hope this turns out to be a hoax. I suspect there is some truth to the story, but I wish you wouldn't show that pic of David. We all make dumb mistakes cuz of being horny. Gawker is the lowest of the low.
Drama... Heard about it, actually. Think Perez talked about it on his podcast. Whatever, I could care less about that & more about the hunk taking a selfie. :D
I don't get the Gawker staffers disgust in taking down the post. I can guarantee you if it was written about them or their family member, the'd vehemently insist the story be retracted. That said, Nick Denton has always been an asshole. And one of the two dissenters who were allowed to vote on it staying up was their legal counsel - which I don't believe for a second. It just sounded good that legal thought it was ok to publish in the first place.
Mike Boston , have you always had anger issues? The news is the news and this blog is late to the game, as at least five other outlets have published. Do you think your "kiss" off is going to cause an impact. Stop reading this blog and you punish no one but yourself. Oh! And by the way do a little more research on Harper Lee, and what her representation has done to exploit her in the past several years.
The first mistake was sending any money to the escort in the first place.
1st Wentworth and now this guy. I have really bad taste in hos!
the Gawker editorial staff is upset that the story was taken down with a decision BT the money Board that has stated, in writing they say, they would never get involved with making editorial decisions, ever. the lawyer on the Board voted against taking it down, but i wonder if there were thoughts about lawsuits involved?
Would they of posted the piece if the paramour had been a women?
Or if the procurer was David Carey of Hearst?
What ever happened to the Sydney Biddle Barrows' of hustlers?
Chris is right -- he looks like he could be your brother.
As for "Brodie" --Good for him for hanging on so long. Those old vids of him getting fucked six ways from Sunday are amoung my favs.
