Collapse of Hollywood Sex Abuse Cases Raise Questions About Ethics, Legality
Interesting piece by Sharon Waxman in The Wrap about this so-called Hollywood pedophilia sex ring. My friend Herndon Graddick, who is a former president of GLADD, isn't buying it:
“The notion of what he's [lawyer Jeff Herman, who filed the suits on behalf of Michael Egan in Hawaii] proposing — a gay Hollywood sex ring that trafficked in rape of minors, is a homophobic fantasy. This is the oldest homophobic trope in the book, that gay people tolerate abuse of minors. I can't believe there has ever been a group of gay men in Hollywood standing around watching children be raped. I find that absolutely ludicrous."
Graddick said that the rapid filing and dismissal of the cases will make sexual abuse cases more difficult to stick. “I am a survivor of child abuse,” he said. “I will say that for Michael Egan to level these false charges suggesting he was a victim of abuse that didn't occur is an affront to every abuse victim seeking justice. It makes it harder for real abuse victims to seek justice.”The suits are dropping like flies, but not until people's reputations are smeared and the media shoots its wad over the dirty gays.

Give me a break. Those guys are KNOWN for loving too-young guys. It's not like it came out of nowhere or was a surprise. The term 'children' used by Graddick is not exactly what we're talking about. Can he not imagine a group of men in Hollywood standing around and doing nothing as 15 and 16-year-olds are used for sex? Really? He can't imagine that? I think he's mistaken. That's separate from how sound or not sound these specific cases were.
