Woody or Wouldn't He?

You'd have to be a monster not to be moved and sickened by Dylan Farrow's open letter about what she believes her father did to her when she was a little girl. I have nothing but compassion for this young woman who has obviously had a tumultuous life as a result of her parents' breakup. But call me a child abuse advocate's worst nightmare, I have always felt in my gut that Dylan was coerced into (attempting to make) these accusations, and was largely unsuccessful when interviewed and videotaped doing so. Whether she was victimized by her father or her mother, she is a victim. I hope for her sake she can move past this. While she says she has, it is clearly eating at her that the world still does not hate Woody Allen as much as she and her mother do, which to me says she hasn't moved on at all.

The Daily News reports that Allen's lawyer called Dylan Farrow's account of sexual abuse the resurfacing of "a story engineered by a vengeful lover." His publicist added that Allen will be responding to Dylan Farrow's letter very soon.

“It is tragic that after 20 years, a story engineered by a vengeful lover resurfaces after it was fully vetted and rejected by independent authorities,” said Allen’s lawyer, Elkan Abramowitz. “The one to blame for Dylan’s distress is neither Dylan nor Woody.”

Suddenly it feels like 1992 all over again.

Your turn:

Do you believe Woody Allen molested his daughter?
