Remembering Patrick Kennedy

The New York Times has a gripping, play-by-play account of the birth of President and Jackie Kennedy's son Patrick, the first baby born to a sitting president and first lady since the 19th century. It's a largely forgotten story -- the president was assassinated just three months later -- but one that is more shocking than ever when you realize the little boy was just five and a half weeks premature. Doctors, including some who were directly involved, confirm that advances in pediatric medicine mean Patrick would have had a 95 percent change of survival if he had been born today. (Interesting that they didn't mention Jackie's smoking at all. Wonder how much influence the family had in keeping that out of the piece.) Read HERE.
