It was bad enough that Hollywood thought it was OK to call a movie about two mentally challenged people falling in love "Like Normal People" back in 1979. (Shaun Cassidy popped in some buck teeth and Linda Purl got some severe bangs for the Emmy-bait lead roles!)
But the Washington Post just profiled a like-minded couple in Maryland whose families were also concerned by their budding romance at first, and I can't believe no one found some of the article a tad bit offensive, like these golden nuggets:

You gotta remember, Kenneth, that 1979 was a different time and people weren't monitored by the PC Police that seems to run rampant in the 21st Century. I remember this movie well (it was an ABC Movie of the Week, IIRC) and back then, we (a collective term) didn't consider 'retarded' people as 'normal'.
Thank goodness collectively humans have evolved in their way of thinking about Down Syndrome since 1979.
