Song of the Day: 'Europa and the Pirate Twins' by Thomas Dolby

Although we came to love "She Blinded Me With Science" as much as the next New Waver, it was its predecessor -- "Europa and the Pirate Twins" -- that sent my brother Bill racing to the record store in '82 to buy Thomas Dolby's "Golden Age of Wireless." ("Science" was later added to the reissue of the album, but we got that on the five-song EP in '83). Although "Europa" wasn't a huge hit, something about the lyrics, the catchy drum machine beat, the harmonica solo by Andy Partridge of XTC and the Old Hollywood video kind of made this the quintessential New Wave song of the era. (Bonus kudos for producing three of Prefab Sprout's classic LPs.)
