Advocate's Gayest Cities in America, 2013


First off, congratulations to the Advocate, which will return to newsstands after a two-year absence! Editor in chief Matthew Breen said the decision was reached "due to both reader and advertiser demand." Nice to hear of a print publication going in this direction for a change, so I am happy for once to admit I was WRONG. (But just this once!)


Now to the venerable gay mag's latest story, their list of the GAYEST CITIES IN AMERICA, 2013. I kind of roll my eyes when these roundups don't include New York or Los Angeles/WeHo, but it is fun to hear of new places that are inviting to LGBT people. (Salem? Salt Lake City???) Read HERE.

It's great to highlight smaller cities, but this list is a stretch. I've never heard LGBT Portlanders talk about how gay-friendly Salem, Tacoma, or Spokane are. Although Spokane did precede Portland in the gay-mayor-intern-affair category, but...
