Survivor: NYT

The Gray Lady pushed me and 30 of my colleagues out in late 2009/early 2010. (That was beginning of a massacre that was chronicled in the great documentary "Page One.") Now she's back, looking for another 30 from the newsroom. (Here's hoping everything works out for my friends who have hung on this long.) Ironically, this news comes the same day that word came that The Daily -- News Corp's tablet-only newspaper -- will cease production on Dec. 15. That just happens to be where I was first runner-up for a job right after I got laid off by The Times in 2010 ... and further depressing proof that this whole industry is still in serious trouble with no solutions on the horizon.

Jayson Blair said that whole staff always just made-up their stories, anyway. Just that HE was caught. I don't know about that, but....Remember when the Times tried to crucify the Duke lacrosse guys in 2006? Never respected that paper after that.( Their crossword puzzle used to be good though. Difficult.) -Joe (mjbricksbike@aol.com)
