You've Got Dough

I've always been fascinated by celebrity wills, from Joan Crawford -- "It is my intention to make no provision herein for my son Christopher or my daughter Christina for reasons which are well known to them" -- to Leona Helmsley -- $12 million to her beloved 8-year-old white Maltese, Trouble, $10 million each to two grandchildren, and ziltch to two others: “I have not made any provisions in this Will for my grandson CRAIG PANZIRER or my granddaughter MEEGAN PANZIRER for reasons which are known to them." Details of Nora Ephron's will have just been released -- she was reportedly worth about $15 million -- and while everyone seems to be accounted for, it did strike me as a bit odd that she left $500,000 to sister Delia, $100,000 to sister Amy and just $25,000 to sister Hallie. Her sons aren't mentioned -- thought we had another scandal brewing! -- but it turns out they're provided for in a separate trust. More HERE.

In Ephron's case, she may have already given lots of money to those two other sisters -- Amy and Hallie -- before her death.

In her book "I Remember Nothing," she wrote about a quabble with Hallie over an uncle's inheritance. Apparently Hallie and the other Ephron sisters received the inheritance (Nora's father told the uncle not to give any to Nora because she had enough money). Delia and Amy agreed to split their shares with Nora, but Hallie would not... Maybe this was Nora's way of getting back at her!

Brent: Fascinating. Thanks for letting me know!
