The Marshall Plan

I'm the odd celebrity-obsessed person who prefers autobiographies by nobodies to those by famous people. That said, I may make an exception for Penny Marshall, whose memoir, "My Mother Was Nuts," comes out tomorrow. Her rumored impending death and the fact that she was a semi-regular on two of my all-time favorite television shows ("The Odd Couple" and "Mary Tyler Moore"), and the star of my childhood favorite, "Laverne and Shirley," are considerations. But it was reading her MY NEW YORK column in yesterday's New York Post that really sold me on it. The woman has stories and isn't shy about telling them. See for yourself HERE.

Penny's book is published by Amazon, which means virtually no brick and mortar bookstore will be carrying it. (As Amazon is their competitor.) You'll have to order it direct from Amazon.

Or at least that has been true for all the previous Amazon-published books I've checked on. It will be interesting to see if bookstores bite the bullet and order copies based on how high-profile Marshall has been for years.

I'd be interested in hearing if anyone spots it at a B&N, Borders or indie bookseller.

Love, love, LOVE Laverne! One of the highlights of my acting career was seeing her on the set of "Renaissance Man" which we filmed together back in Detroit. As per usual, I was just an extra (or "background" as we say in the biz), but Penny actually took the time out of her busy day to drop by and say hello to me -- and the hundreds of others who made up the traffic jam scene on Jefferson. Looking forward to reading this one! (K, can I borrow your copy?)
